Understanding Xerish
The path of a gift: from a giver's top-up to your bank
The path of a gift: from a giver's top-up to your bank
This is the whole journey of one dollar, start to finish, in one place. Read it once and every bucket, hold, and transfer elsewhere in your Financial Center will make sense.
What it's for
New organizations often ask, "Where exactly is my money right now?" The answer is always one of five stops on a single path. Knowing the path tells you where each dollar sits and when to expect it.
How it works
- Top-up. A giver adds funds to their wallet. They pay a flat 2.5% service fee (card and ACH alike) plus Stripe processing, shown as separate lines. The contribution itself goes to Xerish Storehouse.
- Gift (recommendation). The giver directs a gift to your organization — a Tithe/Offering, a post, a campaign, or a Fund. There is 0% fee on giving; the full amount is earmarked for you and held at the Storehouse.
- Hold. Every gift clears a short window — 24 hours for gifts on a post or campaign, 48 hours for direct gifts — covering refunds and clawbacks. Gifts on still-open content wait until that content closes or hits goal.
- Grant. When the hold clears, the Storehouse grants the money to you as a Stripe Connect transfer, usually within the hour. Qualifying grants auto-approve; a single grant over the current $5,000 cap routes to board review first.
- Payout. Stripe pays the transfer out to your linked bank on your Stripe payout schedule (commonly 1–2 business days).
Governing limitations
- Push, not pull. You never request a payout. Grants dispatch automatically once they clear.
- Stripe must be connected. Until your bank is linked through Stripe, gifts keep accruing at the Storehouse but cannot move.
- 0.5% annual AUM applies only to balances held at the Storehouse, deducted monthly — never to in-flight grants.
- One deposit can cover many gifts — grants that clear together combine into a single transfer.
Good to know
- Match each stop to a bucket: held = "In hold" / "Tied to open content"; cleared = "Available"; sent = Grant Transfer History.
- The sender on every transfer is Xerish Storehouse — see the two-entity article for why.
- Connect Stripe early so nothing is stuck waiting at step 5.
