How refunds work at Xerish
Refunds under the donor-advised fund model: what can be cancelled, what is irrevocable, and what happens at account closure.
Effective Date: May 28, 2026 (v3 — DAF migration)Contributions to Xerish Storehouse are irrevocable under Internal Revenue Code §170(c) and the IRS rules governing donor-advised funds. Once your wallet top-up settles, the funds become the legal property of Xerish Storehouse, a 501(c)(3) public charity. They cannot be returned to you as cash.
This is the same posture as every donor-advised fund sponsor in the United States. The irrevocability is what makes your top-up a tax-deductible charitable contribution under §170(c). Without irrevocability, your contribution would not be deductible.
When you recommend a gift from your wallet to an organization, Xerish Storehouse holds the recommendation for a short period before processing it as a grant. During that window, you may cancel the grant recommendation.
- 24 hours for post-tagged gifts (a gift you directed to a specific post or campaign).
- 48 hours for direct gifts (a gift you directed to an organization without selecting a post).
You can cancel an open grant recommendation from the in-app Treasury, or by emailing legal@xerish.com before the window expires. The cancelled amount returns to your donor-advised account balance held at Xerish Storehouse. It remains available for you to re-recommend to another vetted recipient organization.
A cancellation is not a refund out of Xerish Storehouse. The funds remain charitable assets of Xerish Storehouse. You simply withdraw the advisory recommendation; you do not recover the underlying contribution.
After the cancellation window expires, the grant recommendation is processed in the next scheduled batch and Xerish Storehouse cannot reverse the grant.
A wallet top-up is your charitable contribution to Xerish Storehouse. Once the top-up settles, it cannot be reversed as a refund. This is required by the donor-advised fund framework — top-ups must be irrevocable to qualify as deductible charitable contributions.
Exception — processing errors and unauthorized charges. If a Stripe processing error, duplicate charge, or unauthorized transaction occurs, contact us at legal@xerish.com promptly. Where the standard Stripe dispute process applies, we will support the reversal. This is a banking-fraud and processing-error carve-out, not a general refund right.
Wallet top-up processing fees (2.5% card / 1.5% ACH) and the standard Stripe processing fees are non-refundable except as required by applicable law.
You may close your Xerish account at any time. Because contributions to Xerish Storehouse are irrevocable, any remaining donor-advised balance does not return to you as cash at closure.
Instead, you make a final advisory recommendation: you select an organization from the Pre-Approved Recipient List and recommend that Xerish Storehouse grant your remaining balance to that organization. Xerish Storehouse processes the recommendation and closes the account.
If you wish to close your account without making a final recommendation, Xerish Storehouse retains the residual balance and allocates it under its inactive-account policy, with eventual distribution to the F.I.G.S.-vetted Recipient List in accordance with the Storehouse Board’s grant-making discretion.
Financial transaction records are retained for a minimum of 7 years as required by law, even after account closure. Personal identifying information is anonymized in retained records wherever legally permissible.
This refund posture is identical to every donor-advised fund sponsor in the United States. Contributions to the sponsor are irrevocable; advisory grant recommendations can be cancelled before they are processed; account closure routes the residual balance to charitable purposes rather than returning it to the donor.
The irrevocability is not a Xerish design choice. It is the legal requirement that makes your contribution to Xerish Storehouse a deductible charitable contribution under Internal Revenue Code §170(c). Trading away the irrevocability would also trade away the deduction.
