Tithe & Offering: direct giving to your church
Tithe & Offering: direct giving to your church
A Tithe or Offering is a direct, undirected gift to your church. It is the single direct-funding bucket on Xerish: the giver supports your church, and your church receives the money to steward at its own discretion. Everything else - posts, campaigns, and Funds - routes giving toward a specific appeal or set of recipients. Tithes & Offerings do not.
What it's for
Use the Tithe & Offering bucket for the ordinary, ongoing generosity that sustains your church - weekly tithes, general offerings, and gifts a member wants to give without tying them to any one appeal. Because the gift is undirected, you decide how it's applied. This is the home for general giving that isn't a campaign and isn't split across other organizations.
How it works
- A giver opens your church profile and chooses to give a Tithe or Offering (the app's Quick Tithe flow is one entry point).
- They pick an amount and, if they like, set it to recur weekly, every two weeks, or monthly. Tithing is recurring-first - monthly is the default, with a one-time option.
- Optionally they choose one of your church's designation categories (for example General Fund, Missions, or Building). The gift still goes 100% to your church - the designation is your own internal label for how it's earmarked, not a different recipient.
- The gift is received for your church and settles to your connected account after a short clearing window.
You manage your designation categories in your church's settings - add, rename, reorder, or retire them so givers see the buckets that match how you account for giving.
Governing limitations
- Churches only. Tithes & Offerings are a church concept. Standard organizations receive giving through posts, campaigns, and Funds, not a tithe bucket.
- Undirected by definition. A Tithe or Offering goes to your church alone. If you want to split giving across other organizations, create a Fund instead.
- Designations are internal labels. They categorize gifts to your church; they never route money to another organization and never change the recipient.
- 0% Xerish fee on the gift. Xerish takes nothing from wallet giving. (Topping up a wallet by card or ACH carries the standard top-up fee, which is separate and disclosed to the giver.)
- No goal or close date. Unlike a Fund, the Tithe bucket is ongoing - there's no target, no allocation weights, and no completion.
Good to know
- Recurring gifts are the backbone of tithing. Encourage members to set a cadence so support is steady; they can edit or stop a recurring gift at any time.
- Designations vs Funds. A designation like Missions keeps a gift inside your church. A Missions Fund is a published, time-boxed giving target that can route to one recipient (your church) or many. Choose a designation for steady internal accounting; choose a Fund when you want a public, goal-bearing appeal.
- Reporting. Tithe & Offering giving appears in your financial reporting alongside Fund and campaign giving, so you can see total generosity in one place.
