Tax receipts & deductibility for your givers

A common question from supporters: "Will I get a receipt, and is my gift deductible?" On Xerish, you do not issue receipts — Xerish Storehouse does. Here is what to tell them.

What it's for

So you can answer giver questions confidently and consistently, without promising more than the law allows, and without taking on receipting work yourself.

How it works

  • The Storehouse is the donee. Because contributions are made to Xerish Storehouse (the 501(c)(3) DAF sponsor), the Storehouse is the organization that issues year-end tax statements to givers — not your church or org.
  • Contribution amount only. A receipt reflects the contribution a giver made at top-up. Service fees (the flat 2.5%) and Stripe processing are never charitable and never appear on a receipt.
  • Automatic. Givers receive their statements from the Storehouse; you do not generate, sign, or mail anything. You can see how many statements went out from your Financial Center.

Governing limitations

  • Deductibility is intended, not guaranteed. The Storehouse's IRS determination is pending. Describe gifts as intended to be tax-deductible — never state deductibility as final or settled.
  • Do not issue your own Xerish receipts. Issuing a parallel receipt for the same gift would double-count it. If you separately receipt offline gifts you receive outside Xerish, keep those clearly distinct.
  • Each giver's situation differs. Whether a gift is actually deductible on a return depends on the giver's own tax circumstances. Encourage them to consult their tax advisor; do not give tax advice.

Good to know

  • The §170(f)(8) acknowledgment language on Storehouse receipts is written for the DAF (Storehouse-as-donee) model and is under legal review before publish.
  • The card statement descriptor givers see is XERISH STOREHOUSE, which matches the receipt issuer — that consistency reassures supporters.
  • For the legal structure behind all this, see the two-entity and Storehouse-independence articles.
