Launchpad: Getting Started

Tagging your Organization by who you serve

OrganizationsChurchesLast reviewed May 26, 2026

What this step is for

Xerish''s primary discovery filter is who you serve, not what you do. A Giver who feels called to support widows, orphans, refugees, or the unhoused starts there — and your Organization shows up if you tagged that recipient population.

This is governed by CONSTITUTION §XXIII (Recipient Taxonomy as the primary categorization standard).

Why it matters

  • Discoverability. Untagged Organizations effectively don''t exist on Discover. Givers filter by population first.
  • Algorithmic feed. The Giver feed weights posts from Organizations whose tags match the Giver''s stated geographic and population focus.
  • Doctrinal alignment. Xerish''s mission is to surface Kingdom work where Givers feel called. Recipient tags are how the platform sees that.

How to complete it

  1. Open the Recipients picker.
  2. Browse the categories. Each is a real population — Widows, Orphans, Unhoused, Refugees, Persecuted Christians, Trafficking Survivors, Veterans, Incarcerated and Returning Citizens, etc.
  3. Select every category that genuinely describes whom your work reaches. Be honest — over-tagging hurts you when a Giver browses and finds you don''t actually serve who you claimed.
  4. You can tag multiple. Most Organizations tag 1-4 recipient types.

What to expect after

Your Organization appears in the Discover grid for every recipient category you selected. Per-post tags (added when you write a post) can further specify the recipient population for that particular post — useful when your Organization serves several populations but a specific campaign is focused on one.

Common mistakes

  • Tagging everything. "We help everyone" is not a position; it''s a non-position. Givers ignore it.
  • Tagging populations you don''t actually reach. A surveyed Giver who tried to refer their unhoused friend to an Organization tagged "Unhoused" but that only does Sunday breakfasts for already-housed members will not Give again.
  • Forgetting to retag after a program change. If you started a new outreach to refugees this year, add the tag — Givers searching for refugee-focused work need to find you.

This list is curated by Xerish admin. If you serve a population you don''t see represented, contact support to propose a new node.
